The current context of Manchester United is causing serious concern among supporters, particularly due to the team’s disappointing performances. Manager Ruben Amorim recently described his squad as the “worst team” in the club’s history following a crushing defeat against Brighton.

A nightmarish season

After another 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford, Manchester United recorded their 10th defeat of the season, currently placing them in 13th position in the Premier League. This disastrous run marks one of the club’s worst seasons in many years.

Amorim, who took over the team in November, shared a frank assessment of the situation during the post-match press conference. According to him, this situation is trying both for the supporters and for himself. The coach recognized that the current team does not live up to the club’s historic standards.

An alarming report

Since taking over, the coach has seen his team pick up just 11 points out of a possible 33, which could take them to one of their worst finishes in the Premier League. Currently, United are closer to the relegation zone than the European places, remembering that the club has not experienced relegation since 1974.

Promises and difficulties

Upon his arrival, Amorim was aware of the difficulties facing the club, which has continued to falter since the departure of Alex Ferguson in 2013. Although he has introduced a promising new tactical system, inconsistency remains a major problem , plunging the team into the depths of the standings.

There are nevertheless positive signs: Manchester United notably managed to beat Manchester City 2-1 and obtained a draw against Liverpool. However, these performances are overshadowed by defeats against teams considered less competitive.

An uncertain future but prospects

Despite the difficulties, Amorim is determined not to change his outlook on the game. He acknowledged that the players have not yet fully assimilated his system. The manager is committed to sticking with it, even if it means temporary setbacks.

However, history offers some hope. The last time Manchester United lost 10 of their first 22 Premier League games was in the 1989-90 season, under a young Ferguson, who went on to lead the club to 13 league titles.

Ruben Amorim’s side will have a chance to turn things around in their next Europa League game against Rangers, followed by a Premier League encounter with Fulham. Fans will be hoping for a bounce-back soon.
