FC Bayern is going through a tumultuous period, marked by serious accusations against its president, Jan-Christian Dreesen. A report mentions a power struggle within the club, which could have serious consequences for Dreesen’s future.
Serious accusations against Jan-Christian Dreesen
According to information reported by the “manager magazin,” Jan-Christian Dreesen is said to be involved in a series of sensitive incidents affecting his leadership. Accusations of inappropriate behavior have emerged, including an incident that occurred three years ago with a female employee, during which Dreesen allegedly made insults and threw a magazine at her. Although an internal investigation was conducted, the employee has since left the club.
An uncertain future for Dreesen
Following Oliver Kahn’s departure in May 2023, Dreesen was appointed as the general director of FC Bayern. However, a title-less season and internal conflicts jeopardize his position. His contract is theoretically set to expire in mid-2024, but a decision regarding his future could be made as early as the supervisory board meeting scheduled for November 11. Rumors of non-renewal of his contract are multiplying.
Conflict over broadcasting rights
Dreesen has also faced criticism due to his actions as a member of the DFL presidium. The decision to award the broadcasting rights to Sky, despite a higher offer from DAZN, sparked controversy. This sale process resulted in a court ruling, leading to the cancellation of the rights allocation. The supervisory board, which includes prominent figures like Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has expressed its dissatisfaction through a letter demanding explanations.
Rotation in the club’s management
In response to the situation, some internal sources suggest that Michael Diederich, the current financial director, is being considered as the future president of the club. Other well-known candidates for the position seem unlikely. Dreesen, for his part, is said to have received clear instructions to step down from his duties at the DFL. However, he does not yet appear willing to relinquish his position.
Thus, the future of FC Bayern Munich and its president remains uncertain, with growing tensions within the club signaling significant changes in the short term.
